From the Preacher...

Think On These Things:   Have you ever asked yourself "What is the purpose of life?"   Or better yet,  "What is the purpose of my life?"  Some search for meaning and purpose in a career.  "My purpose is to be a dentist."  Or "My purpose is to be a teacher."  Or "My purpose is to be a politician."  On and on the list could go.  But are these desires a justification for existence?   All these examples are those opting to be a human "doing" rather than a human "being."   Who they are is what they do - consequently, they do a lot.  They work many hours because if they don't work, they don't have an identity.

For others, who they are is what they have or possess.  They find meaning in a  new car or a new house or new clothes.  These folks are good for the economy and rough on the budget because they are always seeking meaning in something they own.  Some try sports to find purpose.  Others try entertainment.  But in the end, all of these don't seem to completely satisfy.

Shouldn't we just face the truth?  If we don't acknowledge God we are like wreckage remaining after a ship has sunk.  We're just floating around aimlessly; vagrants and drifters.  No meaning nor purpose - just floating around, carried here and there by the currents.  But God tells us we have purpose!  God asked through Moses in Deuteronomy 10:12  "And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you?"   (here's the purpose) "Fear the Lord your God, walk in all His ways, love Him, and serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and keep His commandments and statutes."

There's our purpose.  That's why we are here and what we need to be doing.  And when we are fulfilling our purpose, we will be fulfilled!"
